Editorial
Several of you have asked about missing newsletters. What has happened is that the cost of commercial printing of newsletters is quite expensive, especially with the color images you all love. Without going into details, I’ve been able to print most of the newsletters using a source that costs us nothing. But, for the past few months, this source has been unavailable due to problems with the printer. Most of the attempts to print were done at the last minute and were not successful. This time, however, the printer has been repaired and printing will reconvene. For those of you that want copies of past newsletters, please let me know and I will do what I can to get them to you. Meanwhile, please accept my apologies about not being able to get those past editions out to you via snail-mail. Most members have Email or access to the club Web Site and have been able to get their copies that way. I probably should have done more to get the newsletters out, but it has been a very busy summer for me, and, as most of you know, I’ve not been home much due to work-related travel.
So, here we are, back to normal, I think..
Thanks for your patients and for your understanding.
Dick Soucy, Secretary/Newsletter Editor.

President’s Corner
We have just about completed probably the most comprehensive calendar in Skyblazer's history. I thank all those who offered, even just once, a helping hand in any of our events.
Individuals continue to put themselves out front and do us great service. Sure, we will ask them to do it again ! Art Shoenrock has propelled himself into flying and static display roles all season. I think he has become individually famous, even without the Skyblazers. Art prepares, competes, and exits in a most professional manner and he's ready to do it again. Please thank him personally when you see him.
Reports of events are up to date in the newsletter and those participating should take a bow also. We had a great year.
Under my watch, we will identify primary and secondary points of contact (P.O.C.) for each event, dividing the responsibility and insuring constant communication throughout planning and completion of event and reports.
See you 1 Oct.
Roy Wilson, President, Atlantic County Skyblazers RC Flying Club

SAM12
SAM Champs 2008 Walt Geary and I attended the 2008 Champs along with John LeTrent from SAM 12 who traveled alone. Thirteen models, all our gear and us crammed the van. We arrived at Muncie early enough to catch the beginning of the Flying Aces meet and then went
to the Convention Center and the Meca Collecto where we enjoyed running of rare engines and prepared part of Walt's collection for sale. Weather was generally good for the Champs. It's always windy. The "New Jersey boys" and the "Pennsylvania Posse" ripped ‘em
up this year in the trophy list. Our regular SAM 12 meet participants were well prepared for the Champs, always on the flight line
and conspicuous with a great looking array of models. I described Walt's "Soaring Eagle" so many times, I thought I designed it. I was able to rack up two trophies on Monday. A fifth in Pure Antique and a fifth in A Texaco with " Miss America" and " Powerhouse" respectively.
Walt had a third in "Ohlsson 23" and a fifth in "Ohlsson Sideport". John LeTrent and "Playboys" won the C ignition event in the fly off, and was 2nd in A Glow. He had a Fifth in "Foxacoy". Teamwork was apparent among all our NJ and Pa entrants. We had a great time. The Bean Feed and Banquet were well done.
We even went out to Texas Road House one night, six of us with a $ 108 bill, and the tab was picked up by someone. We still don't know who!!
Our group has more stories than can be told here, but you will all be tired of hearing them before this year is over. Competition? Sure. A little pressure? Could be. But flying with this bunch is great. Meeting some of the greatest modelers in the country through Walt Geary, is my right of passage. More and more I feel like one of the gang.
I'll report on final results as soon as they are published Roy Wilson
SAM 12 We will fly at the "Octoberfest Vintage Fly In" at Oxford,Pa on Oct 11. The flying will continue regularly on Wed night until EDST is over-then-whatever Roy and Ed

The Ocean City Air Fest was held on Saturday, 20 September, and I can tell you this, a good time was had by all, and I mean all. The crowd, numbering around 3,000 to 5,000 people (estimated by the show operators), were totally wowed by both our static display and the flight demonstration/air show. Here is a breakdown as to what happened and who flew what:
Brian Tindall: The Flying Thingz “Flying Lawnmower” (see below). Brian and Dick Soucy did a skit where Dick walked the “Flying Lawnmower” toward the flight line. The announcer, and our club President, Roy Wilson, started the banter between them in which Dick “ignored” him. Then, Dick walked toward Roy with his arms waving so as to argue that “I have to cut the grass here, no matter what your little toys are doing.” At that point, Brian continued to taxi the “mower” toward the runway. Dick turned around and acted out the skit by running toward the mower yelling “Where are you going.. STOP”. Brian then accelerated and then lifted off, much to the delight of the crowd. I don’t think they were prepared for this, to see a lawnmower actually fly!! This was a definite crowd pleaser, and a great opener for the upcoming flight activities. They cheered and clapped their hands, much to the delight of all the attending Skyblazers. I heard comments like “I’ll be darned.. a flying lawnmower. These guys can get anything to fly”, and “Hey.. what’s this? A lawnmower? Now that’s neat!!” Definitely a show opener if there ever was one. Marc Angelucci: Marc flew his Cristen Eagle II Gasoline powered aerobatic bi-plane. He did a series of basic and routine maneuvers which sort of prepped the crowd for the next several flights. When he was finished, the crowd responded with a very nice ovation, showing their appreciation. Ron Lockhart: Tiger II Electric Conversion. Ron took over where Marc left off. Ron performed with his Master Class Pattern sequences. His son, Dave announced maneuvers as Ron performed them. One maneuver in particular was the Square Loop, which Ron performed perfectly and got a very pleasant ovation from the crowd. Brian Tindall: Brian was up again, this time with his Enforcer. Brian did a series of advanced regular maneuvers, again, sort of an in-between flying performance. His plane was very fast, and this introduced speed as well as maneuvering capabilities. Brian ended his flight early because of a suspected elevator flutter and did a very nice job with his careful and controlled landing. Nice job, Brian! DaveLockhart: Dave flew his Prestige Electric Pattern Ship. This is the aircraft Dave uses during his regular competition flying. His dad, Ron, did the announcing by describing each and every maneuver as Dave went through them. Dave’s rolling loop was particularly impressive to everyone, including most of the Skyblazers. The crowd was especially impressed with the sound. Of course, with Electric, there isn’t much noise, and that’s what was most impressive. Marc Angelucci: It was Marc’s turn again. This time, he flew his Edge 540. Marc was on cloud nine. You see, while we were showing off our aircraft at the pre-flight static display at the hanger, well, you wouldn’t believe it, but a full scale Edge 540 landed and parked right in front of the hanger. So, Marc was flying at his best capabilities just to show the full scale pilot that models do perform as well as their big brothers. And he did a great job of it. Dave Lockhart: Dave was up again. This time with his Sundowner Electric. This plane is very fast, probably the fastest at the event. And, it is electric powered. Dave put on an impressive demonstration of both speed and maneuverability. He did his classic ending wagging the tail of the Sundowner which really pleased the crowd. Brian Tindall: Brian was uip again, this time with his Cermark F-16. Brain did some basic maneuvers and just flew around showing off the flying capabilities of the F-16 as well as his handling abilities. Team Dave and Ron Lockhart: Dave had his Diamonte Electric and Ron again flew his Tiger II Electric. The team flew a series of aerobatic maneuvers in formation. It was very pleasing to the eye as both aircraft maneuvered around in close formation doing loops, rolls, and some basic aerobatic maneuvers. Then landed together and got a very well deserved ovation. This sort of flight takes an enormous amount of concentration as well as a good amount of trust between the two pilots. Very impressive. Brian Tindall: Last but not least, Brian was back up with his bright yellow AT-6. This was our war-bird flight. And again, Brian was inspired because there was a full scale AT-6 on the tarmac. Brian flew the AT-6 in a series of typical war-bird maneuvers including split S, Cuban 8’s, and Immelmann. When he finished, and landed, the crowd showed their appreciation by giving us a loud and long applause. It was a good day for RC in general and the Skyblazers in particular. Thanks to all that participated.
We had many aircraft on static display. See below for a list of aircraft and the owners. Artie Schoenrock arrived early with his trailer. Artie has been very supportive and enthusiastic about showing off his aircraft this year, and in past years too. Artie towed his trailer, loaded up with aircraft, and showed them off at the Mall Show, the FAA Tech Center’s Aviation Enrichment Symposium, at the FAA’s Careers in Aviation day at Strawberry, at the Riverbend Open House, at the Atlantic City Boardwalk Extravaganza on Airshow day, and now, at the Ocean City Airfest. Artie had several of his aircraft on display and was available to answer questions from the crowd. Good job, Artie. It’s members like you that are what this club is all about.
Dave Lockhart had his collection of electrics, including his little RC Helicopter Eflite Blade CX2, which he flew inside the hanger and really impressed the crowd. He also had his little featherweight Parkzone Vapor electric powered aircraft. This thing is so light that he landed using Artie’s J3 Cub wing as a landing strip.
Ron Lockhart had his show collection on display. Ron, as Artie, is always supportive of club activities and is always there, with his aircraft, proudly showing off his building skills.
Brian Tindall brought his collection of war birds and war bird look-alike aircraft. He flew most of them too. Nice job, Brian. Brian also was the pilot of the RC Flying Lawnmower. We carefully kept an eye on the wind, knowing that this aircraft was very susceptible to wind conditions. But, it flew and really pleased the crowd. We hid the lawnmower in the back so that the crowd didn’t expect to see something like this fly. So, it was a surprise to the crowd and they responded accordingly. The Flying Lawnmower was purchased, with the club approval, as a tool for use at such flying events as this. The thought was that it would do a good job introducing the crowd to the SkyBlazers and RC, sort of a flying ambassador. The model was built by Roy Wilson, his building craftsmanship was obvious. Roy provided the radio system (TX, RX, & servos), as well as some miscellaneous parts. Dick Soucy provided the engine, and OS 50 SF and the engine mount, and Brian piloted it, which in itself, contributed a lot because of the time required for setup, trim, and engine adjustments to flying this strange ‘aircraft’. Brian states that it is a handful to fly, sort of resembling a flying brick.
Mike Schall brought his Spacewalker, which was interesting in itself because it has a four cylinder four stroke engine. Mike really helped out by standing by the hanger while the rest of the members were involved in flying activities. Thanks, Mike.
Other participants and supporters were our President, Roy Wilson, our secretary, Dick Soucy, and Treasurer, Ed Milewski. Brian’s son, Brian Jr. was on hand as an aid to Brian in setup and flying his aircraft. Marc Angelucci had his friend and mechanic, Larry, along to help him with unloading, assembly, and flight preparation. Joe Zeigenfus and Steve Skwarlo were on hand to help out. Frank Impagliazzo was there. Frank was mostly involved with the FAA display, but came by to make sure we were ok and to check if we needed anything. Frank is our point of contact with the City of Ocean City, and without him, we would not be participating in the event, so we owe him a debt of gratitude for all he does behind the scenes. Thanks, Frank!!!
For this event, the City of Ocean City wanted to sponsor a contest for the models, which included some judging categories and voting slips to be filled out by the people visiting the hanger. Categories and the aircraft were A = Scale, B = Sport, and C = Helicopter. A last category was “Best of the Show”.

Dave Lockhart's " Prestige " did not compete.
As you can probably tell, we had a good day, and we really managed to please the crowd, which is the name of the game in an event like this. We also took every opportunity to talk RC and Skyblazers, inviting anyone to come out to our fields and either be spectators, or to give RC a try.
Dick Soucy reporting.
