Minutes
Meeting was called to order at 8:00pm
Reading of the previous minutes was forgone.
Riverbend: Bob Stinson Field is OK.
Strawberry: Ron Lockhart Field looks good.
Aerobatics/Pattern: Ron Lockhart Skyblazers did well at the Sayre, Pa event Carl Viet placed 2nd in Intermediate Ron took 3rd in advanced, Dave placed 1st in FAI
Sam 12: Roy Wilson Roy explained that all east coast Sam participants are underdogs when it comes to press coverage. Roy has sent letters to the west coast magazines to remind them that we do exist on the east coast and are strong in numbers. And a reminder to members that all are welcome to come out on Wed night to see what its all about and fly. No need for an old timer, just bring out anything you have and fly.
Roy also talked about this year was the 21st event held by the ACSB. Tshirts were given to all participants with 10 years or more in the event.
| Training: | Where are all the club's buddy boxes? | If you have one or know where they are please let the |
| officers know. | ||
| Helicopters: | Prep for the Gathering is going well. |
Other events: The FAA Careers in Aviation day went great. 34 kids showed up in a convoy at 9:30 and stayed until noon. Bob Stinson flew many of the kids on the buddy box and everyone had a great time. At the end of the visit, a kit donated by Seaport Hobbies was raffled off to one lucky kid. Thanks to all who participated.
The OC Airshow is coming up fast. Our flying lawnmower is almost complete. We were also asked to come up with categories for public judging of our models just like they do with the scale aircraft.
Ron spoke a bit about a program called "Wings Across America." The goal is to fly a single airplane in all 50 states. Ron was #17 and the plane has since moved to the next participant.
Ken Bagdon told us about the Flying Aces NATS held in New York recently. These are all free flight models and include such classes as Scale and Counter Rotating.
Show and Tell: Ken brought in a newly built Little Stik. He has set it up as a 4 channel with a Norvel 61 engine. It is covered in red and yellow Econokote and states "Stik It To 'em" on the top of the wing.
As a reminder...... All ideas for events should be brought up at the meetings. Planning of events should include the layout and scale of the event as well as Chairman, Backup Chairman, and volunteers to help with running the event.
Meeting was adjourned at 9:25pm
Late entry:
Ocean City Air Fest: We are well on our way to another successful Ocean City Air Fest this year. As we said in previous newsletters, we are planning on having a little skit to entertain the crowd. We have purchased a Flying Thingz Flying Lawnmower. Additionally, Nasim, same pilot that has flown turbines at Ocean city for several years now, will again join us for the Sep 20th Air Festival day. As with other static demonstrations, though, we will need pilots and aircraft. So, please plan on being there to help out and to show off your bright and shiny aircraft. The event is on September 20th at the Ocean City Airport on Bay Ave. For additional information, see the special section below.
The minutes were recorded by Vice President, Ed Langowski in the absence of Secretary, Dick Soucy. Thanks, Ed.

President’s Corner
From Jan 1 to May 31 no Skyblazer promotional or club events were offered except for the in-house swap meet which I felt was not well supported. The planning for the Spaghetti Dinner will begin now!!. We somehow blew our chance in 2008.Everything was almost in place, including speaker, but invitations couldn’t agree with hall availability so we had to cancel in a clumsy manner. This won’t happen again–make plans for you and your family and friends to attend. We will need a few volunteers dedicated to the evening.
We contacted the Mall on 9 June and arranged our July 12 date which we pulled off in great fashion to kick off our Riverbend Public event of 19 July. I think that better planning and prep for the Mall Show would have gained a larger crowd at Riverbend. We will fix this!! And at this time a volunteer must come forward to chair the Mall Show and Public Event.
In between, on 15 July we hosted the "Careers in Aviation" program of the FAA. Thirty-four youngsters observed Skyblazer activity and flew the trainers. This could have been a better day! The club owned and maintained trainer aircraft should be dedicated and ancillary duties assigned to volunteers. Sure, we pulled it off, slapped our backs, but always with the same people! Our unique connection with the FAA is valuable to us and we should be completely outfitted, manned and ready
to excel in these annual events.
We participated in the Mini Symposium at FAA, 23 July, to help celebrate their 50 years. A lot of trouble arranging the group, finally canceling the Sport R/C Aircraft part of the display. Eventually we showed antique and old time models of 1941 and older, and scale models of that era. We found the crowd to be interested in our construction techniques and quality workmanship and
news from modeling, in the AC area, of that era.
So, lots of things went right eventually but we miss the attention getting features that could be incorporated in our productions: We have flight programs triggered by our laptops and software but a projected on screen image would be spectacular. In between interactive flight, Skyblazer activities previously recorded could be featured.
At the Mall, aircraft could hang at each entrance accompanying a sandwich board reminding shoppers to see our display. Large ( poster sized) photos of Skyblazer activity could frame our display($). These photos of the members and planes and youngsters being introduced to R/C by club members give us a public connection.

SAM 12
Support means a lot. The Aug 3 Oldtimer event had regular SAM types in attendance, but important also is the attendance of others who remember the "good old days" and thru their contact, advance the sport. Jim Davenport MD didn’t compete this year but visite
