Minutes of last Meeting : By Ken Bagdon

Skyblazer’s OCTOBER MEETING

The following is the summary of the October SKYBLAZER’S meeting held at Riverbend.

The meeting was called to order by Roy Wilson  at 7:09

6 out of 69 members were present for the meeting.

The treasurers’ and secretary’s report was given.

NEW BUSINESS

On member brought up the question as to what happens to the club’s money in the

event that the club disbands. It was suggested that there should be a provision in the constitution addressing this issue. One option would be to earmark it for donation to the AMA. Discussion followed and it was recommended that a committee be formed to redo the constitution which has not been revisited for some time.

Nominations are being accepted for the 2010 officers.  Remember that no more then $5,000 can be spent on campaigning for any position. This includes TV, newspaper and pretty girl expenditures.  Just in case someone had any question about that.

Dues are being collected for 2010. Envelopes will be sent out to each member for dues return.

Meetings starting in January will be held at the Galloway library.

EVENTS Roy is in the process of setting up the dates for next years events.  SAM is set for August 1, 2010.

½ A Texaco postal event October 17th.

Trip to Lakehurst to be organized for some indoor flying.  Details to follow.

OLD BUSINESS

Shirts and hats are still to being discussed.

SAM 12 :

SAM 12 members flew the ½ A Texaco Postal Event on 14 OCT AT Straw.4-6 pm.

Temperature was 55 degrees with only trace of drift. The grey sky appeared to have unlimited visibility. Although without thermals, it was a great night to fly.

We knew we had little chance to max, but were forced to best incoming weather with the closing date of 18 Oct approaching. We may fly again to improve our scores if we get the weather.

One Bomber, one Dallaire, one Coronet. All flew well with only minor eng run issues.

Can I say it again? ----"All should have one of these birds in their coop" You can fly them in competition at our field at least twice a year–" It’s the most fun you will ever have being bored.

Ed, Mike, Roy

Subject: 1/2A Texaco Postal Results

Hey Roy,

Thanks to you and your team for helping make this event popular in SAM. See attached results.

The Australians are coming on strong. They’re going to be tough next year. Hope to see SAM 12 competing then.

                                                  Best Regards,

                                                  Bob Grice

Safety Item:   Frequency interference from a “Buddy Box”

This Question was posted on an internet discussion group, from

a source I know to be reliable:

“I have heard of a transmitter being used as a trainer box transmitting a
signal while turned off. Today I witnessed the condition. While starting my
airplane a club member was preparing to fly with a buddy box. The non
primary transmitter (buddy box) was on my frequency and caused interference
even though it was turned off, luckily I hadn't gotten started yet and
noticed the interference. As a test we pulled the crystal from the buddy box
TX being used which stopped the interference.
The primary TX was on another frequency and the buddy box TX was on my
frequency but of a different brand than their primary TX.
If you would please explain how this is possible it may save someone's
airplane and possibly some hard feelings. I the future the club members will
just get both frequency clips, but how many more are out there. We were
lucky today.

Answer

IF the wrong buddy box cord is use that does not "kill" the RF from the
trainer box, it is possible.  Power is provided from the master box to the
trainer via the buddy cord, but a line is used to disable the RF from the
buddy box.

That answer is from a very reliable electronic technician and owner of

an RC equipment repair facility.
