About Us

About the W.A.S.P.S.

Wellsville Area Small Plane Society (W.A.S.P.S.) is a group of aviation enthusiasts that bring model airplanes to flight. Over 30 area community members belong to the club that was started in 1986.

Model airplanes have become a hobby for people of all ages. To most, it’s the next best thing to piloting a real plane. Not for the weak at heart, there are many influences that can cause a plane’s demise. From wind gusts, to human error, it’s all part of the thrill high upon a hill top in Wellsville, New York.

W.A.S.P.S. members enjoy hosting a fun fly at their club where the public is invited in to see some of their aircraft. They also attend fun flys at other area clubs including one in Cuba and Eldred and the annual NEAT Fair.

Several members are qualified R/C instructors and will gladly assist anyone interested in learning to fly R/C airplanes.   Construction advice is always available from any member.  You need not be an experienced builder/flier to be a member.  Membership is open to anyone, regardless of age, ethnicity, or gender.  The only requirement is that you are genuinely interested in the hobby.  All "flying" members must also belong to the national organization of which we are chartered under, the Academy of Model Aeronautics.  The AMA is an American affiliate of the world governing body for sport aviation, the Federal Aeronautique Internationale.

We welcome all inquiries from any and all interested persons.  Join a civic minded group which holds an annual canned food drive at Christmas, provides a subscription of Model Aviation magazine to the local library, and has put otherwise unused village wasteland to good, wholesome use.

Visitors are always welcome at our field during the flying season.  While you're there, ask questions, watch a few flights, check over the planes in the pits, and you may just get hooked like the rest of us!!
